Summer Camp! The teachers in my daughter's school tell her, whenever she gets up to talk, or give a presentation, "well, you look like you're comfortable talking in public, and do a very good job presenting your material". That's because of Curio Summer Camp! The children learn how to write, costume, and perform a skit in 2 weeks! And no one ever drops their lines!! Unbelievable. The teaching is so good in every aspect of theatre, the kids come away with very important life skills, like talking in public, and/or in front of others. And the confidence level in social settings is noticeable also.
Thanks Curio!! Curio Theatre Company by JayBee Wed, Apr 9th 1:26 pm
I went to 'The Odyssey' in their new space in the Sanctuary at
Calvary. WoW! What a production! What a space!
If 'What the Butler Saw' is half as good, it will be bloomin'
marvellous, as the Brits would say.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED World Cafe Live by WorldCafeLive1 Wed, Feb 20th 2:28 pm

Pod by missuniversitycity Mon, Jan 7th 12:16 am
Try the drink called the "yellow" it's the best. The food is okay but
the atmosphere is awesome. 12 Lounge by missuniversitycity Mon, Jan 7th 12:13 am
excellent fried shrimp. great place to hang out on Friday nights, hip
hop music and NO cover charge. Sláinte Pub & Grill by Pamella Thu, Dec 13th 4:25 pm
Finally, a good watering hole around 30th street! Great selection of beers and $2 pints late nite! Fun atmosphere with great bartenders and servers. Definately worth it to check it out. Abyssinia Restaurant & Bar by goochiegrl Tue, Oct 23rd 5:19 pm
I frequesnt this place. Great food at a very reasonable price. The service can be slow, but well worth it. You will be pleasantly surprised! World Cafe Live by AnninPA Mon, Oct 22nd 2:21 pm
I went back to World Cafe last night and they had gotten their act together much more than the last time I was there. Service was fine, friendly and reasonably rapid. Much, MUCH better than the last time I was there. World Cafe Live by AnninPA Mon, Oct 15th 3:53 pm
Great room. Great music. Marginal food, at best. Last time I was there (and I go a fair amount) the service was terrible-- it took a solid hour to serve our drinks. It's worth it because the music is so good and it's generally a wonderful place to listen. Pod by AnninPA Mon, Oct 15th 3:39 pm
Everyone says the same thing about Pod-- "the sushi bar on the Starship Enterprise." Not that there's anything wrong with that. The food is fine, though I don't find it all that adventurous, and the atmosphere is fun. Dock Street Brewery and Restaurant by elricr Mon, Oct 15th 12:37 pm
I had lunch at Dock street a couple Friday's ago. The atmosphere was relaxed, quiet music playing in the background. The wide variety of refreshments available was particularly impressive. I had a chicken sandwich, not very adventurous but tasty. I've also had the pizza which is delicious.
Now that I've tried the traditional fare, I'd like to check out the black cherry beer or the Gail Ale.
A very cool place for adventures in beer and cuisine! Bubble House by yasminr Thu, Sep 20th 8:07 pm
obsessed with the thai bubble tea and sunday afternoon dance parties. a GREAT spot, i go embarrassingly frequently. Las Tarascas en Zocalo by janvierchaloupe Wed, Sep 19th 2:18 pm
Excellent margaritas and really delicious food. They also have a great outside patio with ample seating. If you have gone, do so soon! Dock Street Brewery and Restaurant by janvierchaloupe Wed, Sep 19th 2:02 pm
Very excited to see this restuarant and brewery move into the neighborhood. Super friendly staff, a fun environment, excellent pizza and a wide variety of beer to suit every patron. World Cafe Live by musicman Thu, Sep 6th 6:19 pm
Awesome venue....great music....friendly staff and suprisingly terrific food! Even lunch was really good. Dock Street Brewery and Restaurant by lori4nature Mon, Aug 27th 4:25 pm
Although I am not a beer drinker, the wheat ale was delicious and they have some of the best pizza I have ever had! It seems they are still working out some kinks with having a new business but definitely worth a try! Dahlak by KacieM Fri, Aug 24th 4:14 pm
The potato salad is to die for- Unfortunately, Dahlak is overrated and overpriced, especially given the stingy portions.
So, I learned to make my own Ethiopian Potato Salad. (You can buy Injera, the wonderful fermented "flatbread", at International Foods on 42nd and Walnut!) Dock Street Brewery and Restaurant by Johnny Wed, Aug 22nd 10:17 pm
So many people. And only on the second day of business.
Awesome.
But get some art guys. Something is needed to soften the
industrial look. I know it is cool, but......
Definitely worth a visit. I didn't try the food but it looked pretty
good! Club Wizzards by cornflakegerl Wed, Jun 20th 5:54 pm
I can't belive this place is real. Is this seriously a strip club attached
to a... what is it? a Chili's? Ha Ha. Dahlak by balance4me Mon, Jun 11th 1:15 pm
Not only is it fun eating with your hands, but it's fun to have everyone's food come on one big plate. This is a great place for vegetarians and carnivors alike (try the lamb!) And good luck remembering the name of that flat sponge bread that's so fun to eat. The Bridge: Cinema de Lux by balance4me Mon, Jun 11th 1:09 pm
They have great happy hour specials...anything on tap for $2. We ordered some food right before our movie and they brought it into the theater for us! How cool. Bubble House by balance4me Mon, Jun 11th 1:06 pm
I would drive to University City just to get their bubble tea. My boyfriend didn't used to like the tapioca balls, but this place converted him. I want to go to one of their DJ nights, too. Bubble House by AndrewM Fri, Jun 8th 12:14 pm
The best Sunday party in town is Sundae. Lee Jones' house party from 3pm - 9pm. Terrific DJs spinning great summer house music, and it's over in time for the Sopranos. Abyssinia Restaurant & Bar by mess57 Tue, Jun 5th 9:14 pm
this place is a gem in the west philly area. the food is terrific and once you've become a regular the staff treats you as family. be prepared to wait a while for your food...but the wait is worth it. World Cafe Live by nenerschnitzel Tue, Jun 5th 5:49 pm
I love this place!!! What a great venue for live music & on our side of the river! My friend & I went to see the Brand New Heavies on Friday night & they were groovyfunkysoulistic! We had a ball!
World Cafe has such a diverse lineup & a great vibe! XPN rocks!! Dahlak by cornflakegerl Tue, Jun 5th 5:21 pm
Yum.
The food is way better than what I expected. I'm glad I gave it a chance. Bubble House by cornflakegerl Tue, Jun 5th 5:19 pm
The DJ night Tech Support is pretty sweet. I went once with my BF, but need to go back with my girls! I believe the event is thrown the third weekend of every month. World Cafe Live by soulmusik Tue, Jun 5th 12:39 pm
What do you get when you mix free appetizers, food specials and good music? You get World Cafe Lives's happy hour "Live after 5". This is definitely the place to relax and have fun after a busy day at the office. Come check it out! Bubble House by grapoport Mon, Jun 4th 8:33 pm
I was at the Bubble House right after the Penn graduation ceremony, so it was packed, but the bubble tea was excellent. Mar Bar by shutterbug Mon, Jun 4th 9:22 am
marbar has an excellent selection of beers. they do host a lot of events though, so you might want to check ahead to make sure you'll be able to get in and the atmosphere will be what you expect it to be. One time I couldn't fit in the door, but another time I had plenty of room to spread out with my friends. It just depenends on the marbar gods.
Millcreek Tavern by michellefreeman Fri, Jun 1st 3:24 pm
I LOVE Millcreek. It's my favorite neighborhood bar and even though I am moving to South Philly, Millcreek will still be my neighborhood bar...Karaoke DJ Chris is no longer there on Monday nights, but I know Jack (the owner) will get a good replacement. Go to karaoke there. It's awesome. And tell Larry I say HI when you go there for a pint. Did I mention he is an excellent dart player? AND I am putting together an excellent rock/punk show there on July 20th, 2007. Please go to that as well : )
