I love Abbraccio! It's right in my hood and they just did a great renovation. I love the fireplace and the bar area is sweet! First place that I went to when I moved to the area and felt very welcomed!

I must be really lucky, despite the negative word of mouth about Abbraccio, I have had fine food and great service every time. Love the fireplace in the winter and the airy, Tuscan feeling of the dining room in the summer.

This is my FAVORITE place to dine in West Philly. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is fantastic. If you have never tried the Parmesan Wings or the Eggplant Parm you are missing out.

Be sure to ask for a chicken... lol

Abbraccio could be a real neighborhood star if they could just improve the food and service. Three times I've tried them now. The wait staff doesn't know the menu, and is either MIA or too in your face, and the food is really hit or miss. The calamari was good, albeit overpriced, and a meatloaf sandwich was delicious, but the pasta falls down, especially the pesto and vodka sauces. A couple of the special entrees have been downright gross. The place has its defenders. But a restaurant doesn't succeed by pleasing some people, it has to avoid disappointing all but a few people, and Abbraccio (as I can tell from other message boards) is sending too many people out the door who have no interest in coming back.
For me, three strikes is enough!

Abbraccio's reputation took a hit on account of its hit-or-miss entres, this first year of operation... the proprietor, Roger Harman, has since come through in a big way.

But the way to enjoy this spacious, easy-going place is still through its appetizers. A pitcher of lager and "antipasti for two" is as good as dinner, and if you tip the (generally gracious) staff extremely well, you still won't break $25. This time of year, you can park yourself on the wrap-around porch and glean some gardening tips from the community plot across the way.

All in all, I love this place for its lo-fi class, and I'll be there after I practice my wedding vows on August 31st. :)
